About the Open-Design Project

The Open-Design project is an experiment to unite talent and need for mutual benefit. There is a void of good design talent in the open-source software development field, largely because most developers either do not have the time or the expertise to worry about the visual aspect of thier project websites. It is an undeniable fact that for a project to reach the widest audience possible and sometimes be taken seriously, it needs a good website.

At the same time, many new designers cannot get hired for commercial projects unless they have some kind of a portfolio. There is a large pool of new talent that would benefit from an opportunity to work in a team on a real project to supplement their portfolio.

This is also a chance to give back by contributing talent to a non-profit organization or an open-source project that displays a need.
